The Google Carousel – What Is It?

And yet another change to Google for businesses.

Have you seen the new Google Carousel? Here is an example of what it looks like–but not all keywords trigger the carousel. Read on for more information.

The Google Carousel

What does it mean for your business?

What keywords trigger the carousel? Mike Blumenthal does a great job with staying updated on all things Google + business, carousel, map, etc. On his site he has a list of keywords that trigger the Google Carousel–in the above graphic I Googled american restaurant southport nc to give you an example of the carousel in action. The carousel does not automatically appear for all businesses. It seems that restaurants, foods, campgrounds, travel related search, and a few more will trigger the carousel.

When you click on one of the links on the carousel–I clicked on Live Oak Cafe (FYI – friends of ours own this restaurant–so if you haven’t eaten there yet–it’s definitely worth a trip to Southport) you are NOT taken directly to a website–instead Google has decided to return a list that shows links to the website, review sites, social sites etc. that mention the restaurant. The jury is still out on whether this is a good or a bad thing–or if its annoying to the end user.

What is your take? Like? or Dis-Like? the carousel?
